Why do I need a training schedule?
The schedule is the foundation of everything.
Football academies and high level teams are not very friendly when it comes to being flexible with time. Training is at a set time on each day. If you’re late, big trouble!
You have to plan things out if you are to get your 10,000 hours of practice in. Things can’t just happen spontaneously (I mean sure you can do that but is that going to lead to the best results?).
Consistency is key and part of that is just showing up everyday to put in the work.
So if you’re not currently in a football academy, you have the freedom to decide when and where you want to train. Its very nice to have that freedom of choice! However, I know too many of you that will find something they liked on Youtube, plan for a training early tomorrow morning before school. Set the alarm for 6am. The alarm rings. You put it on snooze “just once” because you just need a few minutes. 6:10am comes along. 2nd alarm. You get down to the field and start trying to remember how to set up the cones. By the time you know it, its 6:45am – you haven’t done anything yet and school starts at 8am.
And it makes me upset because this process leads to bad results. What you do in your time requires discipline. Discipline is absolutely vital to your success on and off the field.
Once you create yourself a training schedule, you have to commit to it! No matter if you feel tired, lazy or it’s raining or cold outside, you have to make the personal choice that you will do it and abide by it. Make that a promise not to me, not to your Effective coaches but to YOURSELF.
